A corn dog is a sausage coated in a thick layer of cornmeal batter on a stick. Corn Dogs is a popular fair/carnival snack. Commonly made using hot dogs or pork sausages I decided to make them at home with chicken sausage instead. The results were really good. You can use any sausage of your choice.
This was one of our first attempts at making a video, so might not be the best, but hopefully soon we’ll try to make another one 🙂
In a medium mixing bowl,combine cornmeal, flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda and red chili powder.
In a separate bowl, combine the egg, jalapeno, grated onion, and milk.
Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients all at once, and stir only enough times to bring the batter together; there should be lumps.
Season with black pepper and set batter aside and allow to rest for 10 minutes.
Heat up some oil in a wok or fryer.
Scatter the all purpose flour into a dry plate. Roll each hot dog in the all purpose flour and tap well to remove any excess.
Place each sausage on chopsticks, and quickly dip in and out of the batter. Immediately and carefully place each hot dog into the oil, and cook until coating is golden brown, about 4 to 5 minutes. With tongs, remove to cooling rack, and allow to drain for 3 to 5 minutes.
Serve with ketchup and mustard.
